What you will do
- Prepare materials test specimens and perform laboratory experiments according to standard operating procedures.
- Operate mechanical testing and characterization equipment, including Instron Universal Testing Machines, load cells, extensometers, strain gauges, and dimensional measurement tools.
- Conduct tensile, compression, flexural, shear, peel, fatigue, hardness, magnetic, electrical, and thermophysical testing, including tests in extreme temperature environments.
- Prepare metallographic samples through cutting, grinding, and polishing, and perform microscopy and characterization.
- Maintain, calibrate, align, troubleshoot, and improve laboratory equipment and processes.
- Manage test data, Jira tickets, QBench orders, inventory support, documentation, reporting, and custom fixture assembly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate or higher.
- At least 2 years of experience with basic materials preparation and testing tools.
- At least 2 years of technical support experience, including mechanical and electrical assembly, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, soldering, and wiring.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary R&D environment.
- Ability to work on-site in Devens, Massachusetts, lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.
Nice to have
- Experience with Instron systems, Bluehill, Wavematrix, ASTM or ISO testing standards, cryogens, strain-gage application, electrical test devices, metallography, vacuum systems, and shop equipment.
- Experience managing hazardous chemicals and operating materials characterization equipment.
