TL;DR
Materials Engineer (Lab & Test) (Aerospace Materials): Building a state-of-the-art materials lab for mechanical testing, metallography, SEM inspection, and aerospace alloy characterization with an accent on high-temperature superalloys, fatigue, creep, and traceable material data. Focus on commissioning test equipment, writing ASTM-based procedures, running test campaigns, reducing data, and performing failure analysis on supersonic engine hardware.

Location: Centennial, Colorado, United States. ITAR/EAR compliance requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

Salary: P2 level $107,000–$144,000 base salary; P3 level $125,000–$168,000 base salary.

Company

hirify.global develops supersonic aircraft and jet engines using high-temperature aerospace materials.

What you will do

  • Create and commission a new materials laboratory, including equipment specification, test-frame selection, and development of new test capabilities.
  • Plan and execute mechanical test campaigns for aerospace alloys, including tensile, LCF/HCF fatigue, creep, and stress-rupture testing at room and elevated temperatures.
  • Write, validate, and continuously improve laboratory procedures against ASTM standards.
  • Build specimen-tracking systems, test logs, raw-data pipelines, and scripts for repeatable data reduction.
  • Support metallography, SEM inspection, microstructure verification, fractography, and failure analysis of engine hardware.
  • Support allowables programs, NCR and root-cause investigations, test traceability, and statistical treatment of material-property data.

Requirements

  • Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with hands-on industry experience or lab-focused research.
  • Hands-on mechanical testing experience, including specimen preparation, load-train alignment, extensometer installation, and destructive testing.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical testing fundamentals and ASTM standards, or the ability to learn them quickly.
  • Software automation and scripting skills for repeatable analysis, with strong data-traceability practices.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy sufficient to connect microstructure with material properties.
  • Must meet the applicable U.S. ITAR/EAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • LCF/HCF fatigue or elevated-temperature creep-testing experience.
  • Experience with nickel superalloys, titanium, or other aerospace alloys.
  • Metallography, SEM, or fractography experience.
  • Exposure to allowables programs, MMPDS, CMH-17, or statistical material-data analysis.
  • Experience commissioning laboratory equipment or working in an R&D, test-lab, or startup-paced environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • First dedicated engineer in a new materials laboratory supporting a jet-engine program.
  • Ownership of laboratory setup, procedures, test programs, and materials-data infrastructure.
  • Mentorship from senior materials and process engineers.
  • Long-term incentives or equity and flexible paid time off may be included in the total rewards package.
