R&D Engineer - High Voltage (Fusion): Designing, building, and commissioning high-voltage systems and test equipment for superconducting magnets with an accent on vacuum effects, instrumentation, and multidisciplinary electromechanical testing. Focus on developing test campaigns, analyzing structural, electrical, and thermal performance, and resolving issues in SPARC/ARC magnets through testing and RCCA efforts.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid workplace

Salary: $70,000–$120,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. The range applies to new hires across US locations.

Company

hirify.global Systems develops commercially viable fusion power plants and the technologies required to build the future fusion energy industry.

What you will do

  • Develop high-voltage systems, subsystems, R&D samples, manufacturing processes, and test operations for superconducting magnets.
  • Design, build, and commission high-voltage test equipment for development, qualification, and production test campaigns.
  • Perform structural, electrical, and thermal analyses to support sample design and predict test results.
  • Support production, testing, integration, and commissioning of SPARC insulated coils.
  • Collaborate with instrumentation and controls engineers on instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Maintain test campaign requirements, risks, documentation, schedules, and budgets; analyze data and present trade studies, reviews, and test results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science; mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or applied physics is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience designing, building, and commissioning complex electromechanical systems as an R&D or test engineer.
  • Experience selecting and using instrumentation and control components, developing test procedures, and performing data reduction and analysis.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX or equivalent CAD software and familiarity with electromagnetic fundamentals.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical communication, collaboration, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in an industrial facility with high voltage, high current, strong magnets, pressure systems, cryogenics, and other hazards; occasional travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work may be required.

Nice to have

  • Python or MATLAB experience for data processing and analysis.
  • Experience with high-voltage and high-current power equipment, composite materials, electronics hardware, or test software.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage breakdown physics, the Paschen effect, high-vacuum systems, or cryogenic equipment.
  • Experience designing test facilities or improving manufacturing processes for production handoff.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity and competitive compensation.
  • 13 company-wide holidays, flexible vacation days, and 10 sick days.
  • Generous parental leave and health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with employer matching and professional growth opportunities.
