TL;DR
Nuclear Engineer, IV (Nuclear Reactor Engineering): Designing, developing, and analyzing nuclear reactors and facilities with an accent on reactor core design, radiation shielding, fuel qualification, criticality safety, and multiphysics analysis. Focus on leading complex technical work, directing small engineering groups, coordinating design teams, and improving systems across construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.

Location: Rockville, Maryland; office location in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Hybrid schedule with 4 days in office and 1 day remote. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm ET, Monday–Friday. Travel is expected up to 10% as needed.

Salary: $155,000–$185,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Perform engineering design, analysis, and evaluation for nuclear reactors and facilities.
  • Lead complex technical tasks and small groups of engineers, delivering high-quality work on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate engineering phases, technical oversight, and direction of internal and external design teams.
  • Assess customer needs and define nuclear engineering requirements and functions.
  • Recommend system design improvements covering assembly, transportation, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Lead internal and customer design reviews and presentations while coordinating work across engineering disciplines, clients, suppliers, and contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Typically 10 years of experience in an engineering role; advanced degrees may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
  • Technical expertise in one or more areas including reactor core design, radiation shielding, nuclear fuel, criticality safety, reactor multiphysics, nuclear materials and chemistry, or nuclear analysis software.
  • Experience relevant to the design and analysis of small modular reactors, microreactors, or nuclear facilities.
  • Ability to work 4 days per week in the office in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with standard ET working hours.
