Forward Deployed Engineer (Rust)

Location: Hybrid in Bellevue, Washington; the Bay Area, California; or Seattle, Washington. Travel of 20%+ may be required based on customer needs.

What you will do

• Embed with enterprise customers and partners to deploy Spice.ai OSS, Enterprise, and Cloud Platform in production.
• Build, configure, and optimize proof-of-concepts and deployments for performance, scalability, and security.
• Design end-to-end architectures for data querying, search, and AI inference.
• Debug technical issues, resolve deployment blockers, and extend Spice.ai capabilities on-site or remotely.
• Collaborate with engineering to turn customer feedback into product improvements and contribute to Spice.ai OSS.
• Lead customer integration initiatives, drive feature adoption, and improve developer experiences.

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering experience focused on deploying data, search, and AI systems in enterprise environments.
• Experience designing and scaling production database engines, distributed systems, search engines, and data and AI pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills, including queries, syntax, data modeling, and optimization.
• Knowledge of databases, data warehousing, data lakes, search, virtualization, data meshes, storage, and data integration.
• Experience with technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Starburst, Dremio, Elasticsearch, HDFS, Amazon S3, or relational databases.
• Ability to address data security, privacy, authentication, authorization, encryption, performance tuning, and customer-facing technical communication.

Nice to have

• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Experience with Apache infrastructure, the CNCF stack, or cloud-native development.
