Senior Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE)

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates outside the domestic U.S. cannot be hired.

Salary: $175,000–$185,000 base salary per year.

What you will do

• Own core production database systems and maintain high performance, availability, and security.
• Manage schema changes from design through deployment in collaboration with engineering, data warehousing, and data teams.
• Build automated data testing, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and production alerting with SRE, DevOps, and Cloud Ops teams.
• Evaluate database features and products to support scalability and global uptime requirements.
• Own backup and recovery processes and establish disaster recovery targets as systems scale.
• Debug production database issues, perform root-cause analysis, and participate in incident response.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing MySQL or CloudSQL at scale.
• Expert SQL and MySQL knowledge, including schema design and database internals.
• Strong experience with MySQL replication, SQL tuning, database optimization, and minimizing downtime.
• Experience operating Google Cloud Spanner at scale, including schema design and query optimization.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent program.
• Currently authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship or transfer.

Nice to have

• Payments or related industry experience.
• Experience with the GCP toolset, infrastructure as code, or Redis.
• Experience with global multi-region deployments, including sharding.
