Database Administrator - SQL (Azure)

Location: US - Remote; dedicated home office required, with limited travel up to 10% annually.

Annual compensation: $110,000–$140,000, including base salary and bonus.

What you will do

• Administer, monitor, maintain, patch, optimize, and troubleshoot Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server on Azure IaaS.
• Monitor database health, performance, connectivity, availability, replication, synchronization, storage growth, blocking, deadlocks, and transaction throughput.
• Implement indexing, statistics, query tuning, capacity management, backup validation, and operational improvements for high-volume transactional databases.
• Support Azure Data Factory, Elastic Jobs, Azure Analytics Services, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, and Change Data Capture integrations.
• Configure and troubleshoot Azure SQL failover groups, failover and failback operations, replication, maintenance, deployments, and schema changes.
• Respond to customer incidents and change requests, create operational documentation and disaster recovery runbooks, support audits, and participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3–5 years supporting Microsoft SQL database environments, including 2–3 years administering production SQL workloads in Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server deployed on Azure IaaS virtual machines.
• Strong knowledge of backup and restore strategies, high availability and disaster recovery, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Experience with large or complex database environments involving high transaction volumes and replication or synchronization workloads.
• Must successfully pass a CJIS background check upon hire and annually thereafter; participation in rotating after-hours and holiday on-call support is required.

Nice to have

• Managed services experience and database-related certifications, including Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
• ITIL v3+ certification or ability to obtain it within six months of hire.
• Experience with automation, scripting, CI/CD pipelines, database deployment automation, Git, Azure DevOps, IT Glue, Autotask, or ServiceNow.
