Database Engineer II

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; in-office / hybrid

Base salary: $75,000–$175,000 USD annually, plus potential government clearance differential and discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design logical and physical data models, database architectures, and data structures for large-scale government systems.
• Analyze legacy databases, identify migration risks, and migrate schemas and workloads to modern cloud-based architectures.
• Convert stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, and hardcoded SQL queries for compatibility with target database engines.
• Build ETL functions to clean, transform, and transport legacy data into new application environments.
• Configure, implement, monitor, and tune enterprise database clusters for high availability and performance.
• Integrate database code and ETL objects into source control and CI/CD pipelines, and create data-generation scripts for automated testing.

Requirements

• Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one; U.S. citizenship is required.
• B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related technical field; the degree is strictly required.
• At least 1 year of professional data engineering experience designing and implementing tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
• Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases and query languages including SQL, MQL, and CQL.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, AWS Cloud, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% annually for customer engagements.

Nice to have

• AWS Certified Database Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, Oracle, or Microsoft certifications.
• Experience migrating complex schemas between database engines.
• Familiarity with Python, Java, C#, XML, JSON, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and RHEL8.
