TL;DR
Lead Avionics Electrical Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and testing mixed-signal avionics hardware for electric planetary rovers, including vehicle computers, networking, GNC sensors, servo controllers, and PCB assemblies with an accent on system architecture, high-speed digital interfaces, and reliable flight electronics. Focus on leading a 5+ person electrical engineering team, taking PCBAs from schematic and layout through qualification, and solving power, signal integrity, reliability, and radiation-environment challenges.

Location: Hawthorne, California; hybrid work based in the Hawthorne office

Salary: $183,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

  • Lead the Computing Electrical Engineering group of 5+ people and support technical development, performance evaluations, and career growth.
  • Own computing and GNC hardware subsystems, including architecture, requirements, design, analysis, testing, delivery, and vehicle operation.
  • Lead development of vehicle computers, networking, clocking, GNC sensors, servo controllers, and other mixed-signal electronics.
  • Develop mixed-signal PCB assemblies from clean-sheet design through flight, including requirements, architectures, schematics, PCB layout, and concepts of operations.
  • Perform power, size, mass, Monte Carlo tolerance, signal integrity, and reliability analyses using engineering tools.
  • Lead design reviews, verification and qualification testing, system integration, vehicle assembly, and operational support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience designing power, digital, and analog electrical hardware.
  • 2+ years of direct supervision, technical leadership, or management of engineering personnel.
  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, integration, and testing.
  • Experience designing voltage regulators, FPGAs, SoCs, high-speed digital interfaces, precision analog circuits, and clocking architectures.
  • Experience with circuit simulation and analysis, laboratory equipment, and hardware verification testing.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spaceflight, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability electronics.
  • Experience with radiation effects analysis and mitigation for electronic hardware.
  • Experience supporting environmental testing, qualification, and production transition.
  • Experience with EDA tools for schematic capture and PCB layout.
