TL;DR
Specialist, Software Update and Validation (Automotive) (Python/Embedded Systems): Designing and validating software-update interfaces, tools, test benches, and verification systems for electric trucks and rugged SUVs with an accent on automotive electronics, diagnostics, traceability, and configuration control. Focus on analyzing software packages, troubleshooting update discrepancies, automating update workflows, and coordinating hardware and software readiness for pre-series and test vehicles.

Location: Blythewood, South Carolina, United States; 4-5 days per week in the office with regular in-person meetings and occasional travel.

Salary: $100,000-$125,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Design and build electrical connections, interfaces, tools, and test benches for software updates in vehicles and laboratory environments.
  • Evaluate, maintain, calibrate, and document update tools, configurations, instructions, and test benches.
  • Test and validate software updates, analyze package data, resolve discrepancies, and maintain traceability for updated parts.
  • Verify hardware and software readiness for pre-series and test vehicles, coordinating with Development, Logistics, Purchasing, and Quality.
  • Train team members, identify process improvements, and lead implementation of improved update procedures.
  • Develop automation tools such as Python scripts and macros, and maintain systems that verify and record completed software updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in automotive technology, mechatronic systems, electrical engineering, or software engineering; equivalent relevant experience may substitute.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in automotive electronics, mechatronics, embedded systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with bench testing, harness fabrication, vehicle diagnostic tools, software update protocols, and version control.
  • Proficiency in Python for scripting and tool development.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams, with strong documentation, organization, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Able to work onsite in Blythewood 4-5 days per week, attend in-person meetings, travel occasionally, lift up to 50 lbs., and stand for up to 4 hours.

Nice to have

  • Experience with CAN communication, UDS protocols, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of database systems for inventory tracking and software updates.
  • Understanding of vehicle engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting vehicle systems and creating structured work instructions and accurate reports.
