Staff Wafer Process Engineer (PVD/EB Evaporation)

What you will do

• Develop and optimize PVD and EB evaporation processes for complex multilayer thin-film stacks.
• Manage vacuum hardware, including turbo pumps, mass flow controllers, pressure controllers, PLCs, and control interfaces.
• Lead continuous improvement projects to improve recipe robustness, tool consistency, cycle time, and cost of ownership.
• Conduct root-cause analysis, FMEA, and Pareto analysis for systemic yield issues and in-film defects.
• Build automated process health monitors using Python, MATLAB, or JMP and implement corrective actions.
• Manage equipment procurement from technical specifications and vendor selection through site acceptance testing and manufacturing qualification; collaborate with Process Integration, Quality, and R&D teams and mentor engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• Hands-on expertise in sputter coating, including DC, RF, and reactive sputtering, and EB evaporation for metals, dielectrics, and oxides.
• Experience in wafer-fab manufacturing supporting high-volume manufacturing toolsets and high equipment uptime.
• Advanced knowledge of SPC, DOE, and FMEA for process characterization and stability control.
• Proficiency with ellipsometry, SEM-EDX, TEM, AFM, XPS, FIB, XRR, SAXS, FTIR, and defect metrology.
• Experience using Python, MATLAB, JMP, or Minitab for data analysis.
• Ph.D. with 3+ years of applicable hands-on experience or a master’s degree with 5+ years of applicable hands-on experience in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
