Staff UX Designer (Design Systems)

Location: San Jose, California or Boise, Idaho; office-based role with work-from-home Fridays

What you will do

• Own the vision, roadmap, governance, and adoption of the design system across web products.
• Design and help build components, patterns, and design tokens in Figma and production code.
• Maintain the Figma-to-Storybook workflow and keep design libraries synchronized with published component libraries.
• Partner with engineering on token pipelines, shared component libraries, accessibility, and front-end implementation.
• Make the system machine-consumable for engineers, product managers, and AI coding tools through structured specifications, documentation, and integrations.
• Lead audits, validation, mentorship, stakeholder communication, and health reporting for the design system.

Requirements

• 8+ years of product, UX, or UI design experience, including 3+ years leading or building design systems at scale.
• Hands-on experience designing and deploying a production design system from Figma libraries and tokens through shipped code.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with working knowledge of component-based frameworks such as React.
• Experience with Claude Code or similar AI-assisted coding tools and with making design systems consumable by non-designers or AI tooling.
• Advanced Figma skills, design token tooling, Figma-to-Storybook workflows, strong visual and interaction design craft, and a solid understanding of WCAG accessibility fundamentals.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, plus a portfolio showing design systems decisions and shipped production UI.

Nice to have

• Experience with enterprise SaaS, data-heavy, or fintech products.
• Experience mentoring designers and engineers or establishing design system governance, versioning, and release processes.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted design tools such as Figma Make and Claude.
• Motion and micro-interaction design experience.

Hiring process

• Submit a resume, a required portfolio, and a brief note about taking a design system from Figma into shipped production code.
