Staff Design System Lead (React)

What you will do

• Set the multi-year strategy and roadmap for the existing MUI and React design system.
• Own foundations, components, patterns, tokens, documentation, illustration, iconography, and imagery guidelines.
• Maintain a Figma component library and keep it aligned with the production MUI/React implementation.
• Theme, extend, and override Material UI components to create a distinctive RB visual language.
• Partner with front-end engineers on component architecture, implementation, accessibility, and release planning.
• Manage intake, prioritization, governance, versioning, and AI-assisted documentation and agents for self-service adoption.

Requirements

• 9+ years of product design experience, including significant experience maturing an existing design system at a product company.
• Hands-on experience with MUI, React-based component libraries, theming, extending, and overriding component defaults.
• Portfolio demonstrating token architecture, component libraries, documentation, and adoption across multiple teams.
• Advanced Figma skills, including variables, component variants, and auto layout, plus familiarity with Code Connect or Storybook.
• Experience collaborating directly with engineering on architecture, technical constraints, implementation trade-offs, and prioritization.
• Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude or Figma AI/MCP integrations.

Nice to have

• Illustration or icon design experience, or experience directing an illustration system.
• Experience evolving an existing brand identity through a design system.
• Familiarity with motion and interaction design principles.
• Experience with Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio.
