TL;DR
Critical Environments Operator II (Data Center Operations): Maintaining and operating critical building systems in a 24/7/365 data center environment with an accent on electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R, alarm response, and contractor coordination. Focus on preserving critical load reliability, stabilizing equipment during alarms, performing safe switching and lockout/tagout, and supporting root cause analysis.

Location: Durham, North Carolina, United States; onsite. Day shift with weekend coverage; shifts may include nights, weekends, holidays, and extended emergency coverage.

What you will do

  • Complete assigned operations and maintenance tasks for data center and other assigned facility spaces.
  • Use the CMMS to track maintenance work, labor hours, preventive maintenance orders, and reactive work tickets.
  • Operate according to site SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, and MMRs while preserving the reliability of the critical load.
  • Coordinate contractor and vendor access, work areas, safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and site escorts.
  • Respond to building system alarms, stabilize operations, minimize equipment damage, and participate in root cause analysis.
  • Perform critical switching, equipment evaluations, operational modifications, and workmanship checks.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in Tier 2, Tier 3, or Tier 4 data centers, operations and maintenance, or building engineering.
  • Entry-level electrical, mechanical, and HVAC/R skills acquired through an associate degree, technical training, or facility maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of work order control procedures, CMMS platforms, maintenance shop practices, hand tools, and test equipment.
  • Experience with subcontractor and vendor contract management, key performance indicators, capacity planning, and reporting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment through graphical user interfaces, respond to alarms, and stabilize systems until OEM technicians arrive.
  • Ability to work onsite, lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, bend frequently, and climb ladders.
