TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Fusion): Developing assembly strategies and work packages for stellarator fusion machines with an accent on safety, quality, supplier coordination, and schedule control. Focus on defining interfaces and tooling for complex assemblies, validating technical documentation, and monitoring construction through completion across Munich and the ITER secondment in Cadarache.

Location: On-site in Munich, Germany; 6 months in Munich, followed by a 12-month secondment at ITER in Cadarache, France, then relocation back to Munich

hirify.global develops stellarator fusion machines and the hardware and infrastructure for commercial fusion power plants.

What you will do

  • Develop assembly engineering work packages and strategies for stellarator machine systems.
  • Review technical data, supplier inputs, installation packages, and unresolved process issues.
  • Prepare technical specifications and documentation for assembly execution and surveillance.
  • Monitor construction through completion while controlling safety, quality, and schedule.
  • Define component, system, and tooling interfaces, layouts, and alternative assembly strategies.
  • Contribute to assembly tooling design and propagate safety-critical technical controls across the supply chain.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • At least 5 years of experience in large industrial, big science, or nuclear construction projects.
  • Experience with non-standardized design, construction, and assembly of experimental or high-technology equipment.
  • Ability to write technical specifications and documentation and monitor external suppliers and contracts.
  • Knowledge of structural fabrication, welding, non-destructive testing, ultra-high vacuum leak testing, precision metrology, and complex assemblies.
  • Fluent English required; proficiency in Microsoft Office and working knowledge of CATIA V5/Enovia.

Nice to have

  • Experience in nuclear or highly regulated environments and knowledge of nuclear safety principles.
  • Assembly tooling design experience, including codes and standards, safety, quality, and tolerance management.
  • Experience with heavy-component lifting, handling, transportation, assembly scheduling, and Primavera.
