Principal Engineer-Applications (PCIe)

Location: Burnaby, Canada. Travel to customer sites may be required, with expected travel of 0%–25%.

Annual base salary: $86,000–$186,000, plus restricted stock units and quarterly bonus payments.

What you will do

• Lead customer platform enablement for Switchtec PCIe switch products across data-center, AI, and storage platforms.
• Define technical requirements, manage deliverables, and support systems from board bring-up through production release.
• Debug complex hardware, firmware, and system-integration issues using data-center-class tools and workflows.
• Create hardware guides, reference designs, firmware updates, and software tools.
• Deliver technical training and presentations to field teams and customer engineering groups, while mentoring junior engineers.
• Collaborate with product development, validation, marketing, sales, QA, hardware, and software teams on product integration and lifecycle management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Working knowledge of PCI Express and strong C and C++ programming skills.
• Experience developing firmware and drivers for UNIX and Windows, including lightweight embedded operating systems such as ThreadX, VxWorks, or eCos.
• Strong software and firmware debugging experience with multi-threaded architectures; experience with Perl, Bash, or Python test scripts.
• Customer-facing engineering experience involving technical support, issue analysis, and root-cause debugging.
• Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers, exercisers, logic analyzers, and storage-related test equipment.

Nice to have

• Storage-industry experience and collaboration with marketing and sales teams.
• Experience with RISC-based embedded processors, preferably MIPS.
• Kernel-level debugging with tools such as WinDbg, JTAG, and serial interfaces.
• Knowledge of server and storage architectures, microprocessors, I/O interfaces, and electronics hardware development.
• Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and Linux-based diagnostic utilities.
