Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform (AI)

Location: Emeryville, California, United States; hybrid with 2–3 days on-site. Applicants must have ongoing United States work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship.

Hiring salary range: $170,000–$220,000 USD annually, plus equity participation.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data infrastructure for protein engineering campaigns, including ingestion, transformation, validation, storage, and retrieval.
• Develop secure pipelines for internal and partner data with access controls, data siloing, provenance, auditability, and compliance with data-use restrictions.
• Own core data warehouse and platform components using Python, GCP, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, object storage, orchestration, and containerized services.
• Transform experimental, computational, and partner data into reliable analysis-ready and model-ready datasets.
• Establish practices for data modeling, metadata management, quality checks, schema evolution, versioning, and documentation.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, computational biologists, data scientists, and program stakeholders while contributing to architecture, testing, CI/CD, observability, and code quality.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering, data engineering, or data platform experience.
• Strong Python proficiency and experience with Git, testing, code review, CI/CD, and production deployment.
• Experience designing and operating production data pipelines, warehouses, and data models at scale.
• Hands-on cloud experience, preferably with GCP, including BigQuery, PostgreSQL, object storage, workflow orchestration, and containerized services.
• Strong understanding of data security, access control, partitioning or siloing, audit logging, and restricted datasets.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with scientific, biological, clinical, genomic, laboratory, or high-throughput experimental data.
• Experience with external partner or restricted-access datasets, data governance, lineage, metadata systems, schema registries, or data catalogs.
• Experience with LIMS, ELNs, Benchling, research data systems, ML, data science, or computational biology teams.
