Staff Software Engineer, Platform (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; work arrangement: on-site

Salary: $195,000–$315,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain production-grade backend services for data collection and customer-facing insights.
• Own the architecture and performance of distributed systems that ingest, transform, and serve audio data at petabyte scale.
• Define and evolve internal APIs and service boundaries for ML and product features.
• Build resilient, observable, performant, and easy-to-debug systems.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and ML teams to ship product and research capabilities quickly.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience building scalable APIs and services.
• Proficiency with RESTful APIs, service interfaces, and database design, including PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.
• Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code.
• Experience profiling, debugging, and optimizing backend systems.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines or production systems for large-scale inference and training workloads.

Nice to have

• Experience launching systems from the ground up in high-growth environments.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
• Experience working with large-scale audio or video data.
