Senior Transmission Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Francisco; working in the office five days a week is an essential part of the role

What you will do

• Architect high-performance, high-speed geartrain systems for electric propulsion, accounting for rotordynamics, lubrication, and integrated interfaces.
• Perform gear design calculations using AGMA and ISO standards, including load capacity, contact stress, and bending fatigue.
• Analyze rotating-system dynamics, including vibration, critical speed, and noise, vibration, and harshness, using tools such as KissSoft, Simcenter, SMT MASTA, and Ansys.
• Design and analyze shafts, bearings, housings, and lubrication hardware, and establish subsystem testing.
• Define qualification testing and instrumentation placement, analyze test data, and improve simulation models using experimental results.
• Diagnose hardware and software issues and implement corrective actions while collaborating across propulsion, aircraft, and test teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on transmission design and/or testing experience in automotive, aerospace, or power generation applications.
• Foundational knowledge of rotordynamics, fatigue effects, lubrication systems, and transmission failure modes.
• Experience with test instrumentation, data reduction, and validating analyses against experimental results.
• Ability to take initiative, work in a fast-paced environment, and maintain a high level of quality and attention to detail.
