Staff Turbomachinery Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Design turbomachinery components for high-performance liquid rocket engines.
• Perform one-dimensional sizing and detailed flowpath design for inducers, stators, impellers, and hot-gas turbine rotors and stators.
• Design secondary fluid flowpaths for bearings, seals, and coolant paths.
• Perform detailed structural and turbomachinery analyses.
• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, build, and test teams to deliver low-cost, reliable, manufacturable hardware.
• Support turbopump manufacturing, assembly, and testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
• 7+ years of relevant turbomachinery experience.
• Strong knowledge of fluids, thermodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, materials, and turbomachinery design practices.
• Experience with fluids and structural analysis software and CAD hardware design.
• Knowledge of turbopump assembly, including rotor balancing, interference fits, and clearance checks.
• Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
• Experience with compressible and incompressible flow modeling.
• Experience manufacturing and testing stationary and rotating turbomachinery components.
• Experience with bladed CFD, structural, modal, and rotordynamics analyses.
• Experience designing turbopump inducers, impellers, and turbines.
