Health and Safety Manager

Location: Munich, Germany; on-site. The role supports sites in Switzerland and the UK and requires periodic travel between locations.

hirify.global is a European fusion-energy company developing stellarator-based machines and the hardware and infrastructure for a commercial fusion power plant.

What you will do

• Own and continuously improve the company-wide Health & Safety framework, policies, procedures, standards, and management systems.
• Ensure compliance with German, Swiss, and UK occupational health and safety regulations.
• Coordinate safety processes across laboratories, workshops, offices, and technical facilities.
• Lead risk assessments, site inspections, audits, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions.
• Partner with facilities, engineering, laboratory, manufacturing, and operations teams on safe design, commissioning, and operation of technical infrastructure.
• Develop safety training, emergency response exercises, reporting systems, contractor controls, and business continuity plans while advising leadership on risks and mitigation.

Requirements

• Significant Health & Safety leadership experience in engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, industrial, energy, deep-tech, or research environments.
• Strong knowledge of European and/or UK occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
• Experience building and scaling Health & Safety systems across multiple sites or international operations.
• Hands-on experience with risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, and safety training.
• Strong communication, stakeholder influence, organisation, and continuous-improvement skills.
• Willingness to travel periodically between company sites.

Nice to have

• NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH certification, or an equivalent Health & Safety qualification, such as knowledge of German occupational safety frameworks or SiFa.
• Experience with laboratory safety, cryogenics, high-voltage systems, radiation safety, advanced manufacturing, construction, facility build-outs, or technical infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with ISO management systems and audit frameworks.
• German language skills.
