TL;DR
Senior Industrial Engineer (Manufacturing): Designing and optimizing the master layout, capacity plans, material flows, and staffing models for a 1.1 million square foot rare-earth magnet manufacturing facility with an accent on greenfield factory setup, throughput analysis, and production-scale planning. Focus on discrete-event simulations, line balancing, PFEP development, and integrating process, equipment, quality, and operations requirements into the facility master plan.

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC, United States.

What you will do

  • Own the facility layout and space allocation for a 1.1 million square foot manufacturing expansion, including production lines, storage, shipping, receiving, and support infrastructure.
  • Analyze capacity, equipment cycle times, bottlenecks, throughput, and scaling requirements.
  • Design the Plan for Every Part and internal material logistics, including simulations of material movement, AGV traffic, forklifts, and operator walk paths.
  • Create Yamazumi charts, line balance tables, value stream maps, headcount models, and work measurement standards.
  • Coordinate spatial and utility requirements across Process, Equipment, Quality, and Operations teams.
  • Establish the foundations for 5S, visual management, and Kaizen before mass production begins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline with 5+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience setting up a large-scale manufacturing facility from the ground up and supporting successful scaling projects.
  • Expertise in Yamazumi charts, value stream mapping, line balancing, and takt-time versus cycle-time analysis.
  • Experience with discrete-event simulation software such as FlexSim, Arena, or Simio, plus proficiency in AutoCAD for large spatial layouts.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills for machine standard minutes, operator efficiency, and equipment utilization.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

Nice to have

  • Experience with massive-scale facilities, heavy industrial manufacturing, or automotive and aerospace gigafactories.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification and lean manufacturing training.
  • Familiarity with racking systems, AS/RS, and chemical or hazardous-material storage regulations.
  • Experience in Defense, Aerospace, or Automotive regulated environments.
