Staff Engineer (Fintech)

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid position with four days per week in-office. No required office days during the summer and winter holidays.

Salary: $200,000–$238,000 base annually, plus potential variable compensation.

What you will do

• Shape the technical direction for User Engagement and translate product goals into pragmatic technical plans and phased delivery.
• Design and build high-quality full-stack software for customer-facing financial experiences and supporting systems.
• Lead complex technical projects from discovery through release while aligning stakeholders and clarifying tradeoffs.
• Improve architecture, developer workflows, observability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Mentor engineers through feedback, pairing, design reviews, and day-to-day technical leadership.
• Collaborate with senior and Staff engineers to evaluate and adopt effective engineering patterns and technologies.

Requirements

• Proven experience scoping, leading, and delivering complex technical projects from discovery through release.
• Strong full-stack engineering experience building customer-facing web applications and supporting systems.
• Strong experience with at least one server-side language and frontend development using React or a similar framework.
• Proficiency with relational databases, schema design, and detailed SQL queries.
• Strong technical judgment, stakeholder collaboration, consensus building, and technical influence.
• High standards for testing, observability, reliability, maintainability, and mentoring engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with GraphQL.
• Experience with Java, Python, or C#.
