Director of Epic Forward Deployed Engineering (Epic)

Location: United States — Remote

Salary: $190,000–$240,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and lead a team of Epic Forward Deployed Engineers, including hiring, mentoring, and establishing delivery standards.
• Serve as the executive technical sponsor for 2–3 strategic health system clients and lead relationships with CIOs, CMIOs, and Epic Principal Trainers.
• Design AI output delivery paths through CDS Hooks, SMART on FHIR sidebars, In Basket via SendMessage API, HL7 MDM T02 through Epic Bridges, and FHIR R4 write-back.
• Own client interface delivery roadmaps, manage Epic configuration dependencies, and set realistic delivery expectations.
• Translate clinical workflow requirements into specifications for data engineering and product teams.
• Create reusable integration playbooks across Epic modules and represent hirify.global in governance forums, steering committees, and executive briefings.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in healthcare IT, Epic implementation, or clinical informatics, including at least 2 years in a leadership or principal role.
• Hands-on experience with Epic Bridges, HL7 v2 interfaces, SMART on FHIR, CDS Hooks, MyChart, and In Basket / SendMessage API.
• Experience running Epic go-lives or directing implementations at Epic partner organizations, consulting firms, or large health systems.
• Executive-level communication skills, including architecture presentations, clinical workflow sessions, and interface troubleshooting.
• Experience managing client relationships, scope negotiation, escalations, and stakeholder alignment in matrixed health systems.
• Familiarity with FHIR R4 interoperability standards and a bachelor’s degree in a technical, clinical, or healthcare-related field.

Nice to have

• Epic certification in Bridges, Ambulatory, ClinDoc, MyChart, or Orders.
• Production experience designing or deploying SMART on FHIR applications.
• Clinical decision support or clinical informatics experience within a health system.
• Experience with healthcare AI or clinical NLP applications.
• Experience with EHR platforms beyond Epic, such as Cerner or Athenahealth.
