Software Developer, Backend Ads (Advertising)

Base salary: CAD $113,400–$162,000 annually for Intermediate, CAD $158,000–$207,000 annually for Senior, or CAD $200,400–$248,000 annually for Staff

What you will do

• Build scalable backend services, APIs, and platform capabilities supporting communication products used by millions of customers.
• Develop advertising solutions with the Ad Ops team and improve the user experience around ads.
• Contribute to architecture, technical design, platform strategy, and ads code architecture improvements.
• Identify and resolve performance, reliability, and scalability issues in distributed systems and ad units.
• Use data, experimentation, customer insights, and AI tools to improve product outcomes and development efficiency.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, technical discussions, and cross-functional delivery with Product, Design, Data Science, and Engineering.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in a product-focused environment.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems and cloud-based applications at scale.
• Strong understanding of databases, APIs, and modern backend architectures, with proficiency in at least one modern programming language.
• Ability to independently drive projects through ambiguity, communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, and collaborate with others.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, modern development practices, and interest in AI and emerging technologies.
