TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineering Intern - Vehicle Integration (Aerospace): Supporting launch vehicle manufacturing, system testing, production processes, tooling, and technical documentation with an accent on process optimization, risk assessment, and vehicle integration. Focus on developing work instructions, conducting P-FMEA, implementing Lean and 5S practices, and solving daily manufacturing issues in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Location: Auckland, New Zealand. Eligibility to work in New Zealand or ability to obtain a visa is required. New Zealand roles also require nationality checks and access eligibility under ITAR regulations.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program with a mechanical engineering background.
  • Hands-on experience through engineering project teams, laboratory research, internships, or relevant work experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create mechanical drawings.
  • Self-management, adaptability to a fast-paced environment, and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with external companies.
  • Passion for aerospace, space technology, and innovation.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand or obtain the required visa.

Nice to have

  • Experience with 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing principles and process failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Experience with pneumatic or hydraulic systems and manufacturing methods.

What you will do

  • Support the optimization of launch vehicle system tests and production processes.
  • Contribute to tooling design, process development, and work instructions for production technicians.
  • Conduct P-FMEA, risk assessments, and daily manufacturing issue management.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and subject matter experts on vehicle integration and manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Implement 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices on the production floor.
  • Create and interpret mechanical drawings, work instructions, and process documentation under supervision.
