TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Rare-Earth Magnets): Developing and scaling full-cycle manufacturing processes and equipment for a large rare-earth permanent magnet facility with an accent on equipment specification, commissioning, process qualification, and production startup. Focus on optimizing throughput, yield, cycle times, and reliability while creating complex manufacturing documentation and supporting heavy industrial process operations.

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC; begins in Durham, NC and is expected to move to Benson, NC after completion of the new facility. Regular onsite production-floor presence is required.

Company

hirify.global manufactures American rare-earth permanent magnets for defense, aerospace, automotive, and other critical industries.

What you will do

  • Lead the evaluation, quotation comparison, selection, and specification of advanced manufacturing equipment and vendors.
  • Own equipment design requirements, vendor performance, schedules, commissioning, process development, and production qualification for major heavy production processes.
  • Translate pilot-line processes into stable, repeatable full-scale production systems and support startup through full-capacity scale-up.
  • Optimize throughput, quality, yield, equipment reliability, OEE, and station cycle times.
  • Manage technical schedules, budgets, deliverables, equipment reviews, and Factory Acceptance Tests, with less than 25% travel.
  • Develop manufacturing documents including PFMEA, process flows, CAD and electrical/pneumatic drawings, control plans, work instructions, BOMs, maintenance manuals, and MES transaction lists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, automation engineering, or a related technical discipline, plus 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience creating, modifying, and validating complex equipment assemblies in CAD.
  • Experience with heavy custom equipment design, vendor management, and full-cycle commissioning for thermal or raw material processing.
  • Expertise developing PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, and process flows.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical schematics and pneumatic diagrams, including performing electrical and pneumatic calculations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

Nice to have

  • Experience in heavy industrial manufacturing, metallurgy, foundry operations, or chemical processing.
  • Experience handling reactive powders or working with high-temperature vacuum furnaces.
  • Proficiency with advanced simulation software for workflow and line balancing.
  • Familiarity with MES implementation and transaction mapping.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work across the full lifecycle of a major manufacturing facility expansion, from design through production scale-up.
  • Regular hands-on work in a production environment that may be hot, humid, or noisy.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment, including respirators, and completion of fit testing.
  • Adherence to safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration with R&D to develop future production-line processes and equipment strategies.
