VC Associate (Deep Tech)

Location: Hybrid in Los Altos or San Francisco, California; remote work is possible within other U.S. cities

Salary: $120,000–$155,000 per year for California-based roles, plus an annual cash bonus structure

Toyota Ventures is a San Francisco Bay Area-based venture capital firm investing in early-stage deep tech and climate startups worldwide.

What you will do

• Network at industry and venture capital events and help generate deal flow.
• Source, meet, evaluate, and recommend high-potential early-stage companies.
• Participate in due diligence, competitive analysis, and industry deep dives.
• Prepare investment memos and present opportunities to the Investment Committee.
• Support deal negotiations, closings, and portfolio company initiatives.
• Analyze industry trends and author market research briefings.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related work experience, preferably in venture capital or a technology company operational role.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, engineering, or a relevant field.
• Strong understanding of deep tech, including AI, advanced materials, automation, robotics, or space technology.
• Strong financial modeling and analysis skills, including experience with cap tables and financial statements.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, work collaboratively, handle ambiguity, and complete projects with minimal guidance.

Nice to have

• Hands-on development or product management experience in an investment focus area.
• Existing network among deep tech entrepreneurs and investors.
• Previous venture capital experience.
