TL;DR

Location: Fremont, California, USA; hybrid role with periodic travel to test facilities and project sites, including domestic and international travel of 25–50%.

Annual salary: $120,000–$135,000 USD for California.

What you will do

  • Develop and validate electrical Balance of System designs covering DC and AC collection, cabling, grounding, protection, and interconnection components.
  • Define interfaces between PV modules, DC/DC converters, inverters, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
  • Create and review single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, interconnection drawings, commissioning procedures, and installation documentation.
  • Conduct system-level performance, functionality, and grid-compliance testing for inverters, battery systems, and PV optimizers.
  • Support commissioning and deployment at test facilities and project sites, providing technical troubleshooting for electrical and system-level issues.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, improve testing infrastructure, and collaborate with R&D, product engineering, quality, suppliers, and customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, solar PV, or energy storage.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC power systems, distribution, power conversion systems, eBOS, electrical protection, grounding, and coordination.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical design documentation, testing, commissioning, and power-system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL, IEEE, and IEC standards, plus strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 25–50%.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with PV and storage hybrid systems, grid integration, inverter systems, power plant controls, or performance testing.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, controls, and Modbus, DNP3, or IEC 61850 communication protocols.
  • Experience with supplier quality, manufacturing, or electrical component qualification.
