Staff Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Austin, TX, United States; Workplace: Hybrid

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of backend infrastructure and services, primarily in Go.
• Own the data platform layer, including database sharding, partitioning, self-hosted Postgres evaluation, and custom embedding indexes.
• Design and execute safe, low-downtime data migrations against production systems at scale.
• Improve backend resilience, observability, performance, and long-term maintainability under high customer load.
• Collaborate with product, ML, and frontend teams while contributing code to core backend systems.
• Establish engineering practices and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Significant expertise in Go, including performance optimization, concurrency, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on production experience managing and operating self-hosted Postgres at scale, including tuning, replication, vacuuming, storage optimization, and infrastructure configuration.
• Experience with database scaling strategies such as sharding, partitioning, tiered storage, and production data migrations.
• Strong background in service-oriented architecture, microservices, API design, and operating services at scale.
• Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building observable systems using metrics, logs, traces, testing, and alerts, with tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
