Software Engineer, Distributed Systems

Location: San Francisco, CA; remote or hybrid available

Salary: $150,000–$240,000+ base pay annually, plus benefits and potential equity.

What you will do

• Build, test, debug, maintain, and scale backend services and APIs for the Aria software product.
• Design and coordinate application interface, database model, and schema changes across multiple product workstreams.
• Integrate structured and unstructured data across storage and retrieval systems.
• Improve system performance, reliability, security, observability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Develop deployment automation and contribute to platform and infrastructure layers.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and frontend engineers on user requirements and data provenance.

Requirements

• Fluency with Go or Python runtimes, build tools, and library ecosystems.
• Strong first-principles knowledge of modern distributed systems.
• Experience managing container-based deployments and microservices.
• Understanding of monorepository build configurations and workflows.
• Strong knowledge of service-oriented architectures, networking, and security fundamentals.
• Technical leadership and commitment to delivering high-quality software using sound development practices.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a STEM field.
• Senior or Staff-level software development experience.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Rust, Scala, Java, C/C++, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers.
• Knowledge of internet security solutions and AI/ML architectures.
