Scientific Program Manager Lead (Biology)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States

Base salary: $187,500–$237,500 per year, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Lead major research initiatives spanning Technology Centers, Core Investigator groups, and external collaborators.
• Manage scientific collaborations, strategic alliances, partnership frameworks, governance models, and joint milestones.
• Facilitate cross-functional and cross-institutional meetings, resolve blockers, coordinate resources, and maintain alignment.
• Build institute-wide program management frameworks, project tracking systems, and scalable collaboration processes.
• Advise research leaders on program design, risk mitigation, resource planning, and collaboration strategy.
• Mentor junior program managers and lead change management as the institute grows.

Requirements

• PhD in Life Sciences or a related field.
• 8–12 years of program management experience in a research or translational setting.
• Experience managing external scientific collaborations, strategic alliances, or academic-industry partnerships.
• Background in biology areas such as genome engineering, multi-omics, or cellular engineering.
• Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder research projects and building program or alliance management functions.
• Experience with project management tools and methodologies such as Asana, Jira, or Smartsheet, plus team mentoring experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with computational biology or machine learning projects.
• Experience across multiple biology domains or with university-industry and consortium-level collaborations.
• Familiarity with intellectual property, material transfer agreements, or related academic-industry legal frameworks.
• Change management certification or organizational transformation experience.
• Public speaking and scientific communication experience.
