Director of Alliance Management

Location: San Diego headquarters preferred onsite; hybrid working models and remote U.S.-based applicants are also considered.

Salary: $175,000–$240,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead strategic drug discovery collaborations and serve as the primary relationship manager for pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners.
• Run collaboration governance, including Joint Steering Committees, scientific working groups, executive reviews, agendas, action tracking, and decision documentation.
• Coordinate Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, DMPK, Pharmacology, Toxicology, CMC, Legal, Business Development, and project teams.
• Develop integrated collaboration plans covering timelines, milestones, partner commitments, contractual obligations, budgets, and partnership metrics.
• Track risks, dependencies, deliverables, DMTA cycles, assay execution, data delivery, partner reviews, and governance decisions across multiple programs.
• Support collaboration agreements, data sharing, publications, strategic partnerships, executive updates, and continuous improvement of alliance management processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, engineering, business, or a related field; an M.S. or Ph.D. is preferred.
• At least 12 years of experience in alliance management, scientific program management, project management, scientific operations, or related functions in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
• Experience managing complex scientific collaborations and strategic partnerships.
• Strong understanding of small molecule drug discovery from target identification through preclinical development.
• Ability to influence multidisciplinary teams without direct authority, with strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting discovery through IND-enabling activities, including DMTA workflows, DMPK/ADME, pharmacology, toxicology, and CMC.
• Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, or CRO partners.
• Familiarity with collaboration agreements, governance structures, and cross-company research programs.
• Alliance Management (ASAP), PMP, or similar certification.
