Electrical Engineer with Audio

Location: Bay Area, California, United States

Annual salary: $140,000–$170,000

Design house developing connected consumer electronics and IoT products, with engineering teams, laboratories, and offices in the United States and Sweden.

What you will do

• Architect, design, and debug complete audio-chain circuits, including codecs, embedded DSPs, headphone and speaker amplifiers, and microphones.
• Define and develop audio technologies in audio ICs and establish electrical performance targets using literature- and data-driven design.
• Own holistic audio system design across rendering, capture, amplification, power delivery, and the complete audio chain.
• Develop proof-of-concept demonstrations and collaborate with product, program, industrial design, manufacturing, and software teams.
• Design and specify product factory tests while supporting production readiness and product-level failure analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, acoustics, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience focused on audio system design and cross-functional technical influence.
• Proficiency in designing and debugging analog and digital circuits.
• Experience with SPICE simulation, Audio Precision, and OrCAD, Cadence, or similar schematic-capture and PCB-layout tools.
• Experience analyzing PCBA and product-level production and field failure modes.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering or physics.
• Experience with transducer design, acoustic test development, speech-quality testing, and audio tuning.
• Understanding of transistor-level IC design, silicon manufacturing, algorithm prototyping, and audio-chain demonstrations.
• Experience with Bluetooth audio design or debugging.
• Personal experience as an audio hobbyist, musician, producer, recording specialist, or instrument designer.
