Hardware Applications Engineer (Sensing Solutions)

Location: San Jose, California, USA; hybrid, with 4 days in the office and Fridays remote. Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally is required.

Salary: USD $100,000–$163,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design and integrate low-voltage sensor-based electronics into customer devices, including laptops, mobile phones, automotive steering wheels and smart surfaces, fitness trackers, and industrial display panels.
• Prepare schematics, PCB layouts, Gerber files, bills of materials, fabrication notes, evaluation kits, prototypes, and test boards; source components and manage PCB vendors.
• Debug fabricated boards, modules, prototypes, and system-level hardware; perform hardware bring-up and resolve issues for internal and external customers.
• Support sensor-level and system-level testing, characterization, competitor analysis, and failure analysis with the R&D team.
• Provide multidisciplinary technical support, product training, datasheets, application notes, design guides, white papers, and other technical documentation.
• Collect customer feedback, collaborate with marketing and R&D on product improvements and roadmaps, and support development from proof of concept through mass production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of professional board-level electronic design experience; recent graduates may qualify with substantial hands-on circuit-board design and microcontroller project experience.
• Proficiency with Altium, Cadence, or Siemens for schematic capture and PCB layout, including multiple fabricated boards.
• Hands-on analog and mixed-signal board-level circuit design experience.
• Hands-on microcontroller-based design experience, including I2C/SPI interfaces, using Arduino, STM32, or similar platforms.
• Hands-on experience with one or more of ADCs, sensors, embedded systems, firmware development, or sensor signal post-processing.
• Working knowledge of low-voltage power circuitry, including LDOs and voltage regulators.
• Proficiency in C/C++ or Python.
• Familiarity with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, digital analyzers, multimeters, soldering irons, and similar laboratory equipment.
• Experience writing technical documentation such as test reports, design specifications, bring-up notes, or application notes.
• Customer-centric work ethic with strong communication and presentation skills for customer engagement and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 10%, domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

• Customer-facing or applications engineering experience in the semiconductor industry.
• Experience supporting products from proof of concept through mass production.
• Experience with sensor-based products in consumer electronics, automotive, or medical devices.
• Algorithm development experience.
• Experience with AI/ML tools such as Claude.
