TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (BCI): Designing and packaging brain-computer interface hardware from early R&D prototypes through product-ready systems with an accent on mechanical architecture, thermal performance, manufacturability, and biocompatibility. Focus on building repeatable scientific instrumentation, validating tolerance and calibration requirements, and transitioning prototypes into production through vendor tooling, DFM/DFA, and reliability testing.

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States; on-site

Salary: $225,000–$260,000 per year plus equity

hirify.global is a frontier research lab developing high-bandwidth brain-computer interfaces that integrate with advanced artificial intelligence.

What you will do

  • Own the mechanical architecture and packaging of high-density PCBAs, sensors, mixed-signal components, cables, thermal interfaces, and user-facing structures.
  • Rapidly prototype and validate hardware using 3D printing, CNC, sheet metal, soft goods, and quick-turn tooling.
  • Model and validate thermal performance in compact electronic systems with strict temperature and form-factor constraints.
  • Design fixtures, jigs, mounts, sample holders, alignment and calibration mechanisms, environmental interfaces, and test stands for scientific workflows.
  • Define and validate quantitative criteria for tolerance, accuracy, repeatability, drift, calibration, environmental stability, and measurement uncertainty.
  • Lead prototype-to-production transitions, vendor relationships, tooling, inspection criteria, yield, reliability, and mechanical testing.

Requirements

  • Deep experience designing complex mechanical hardware through build, testing, failure analysis, and multiple product iterations.
  • Strong fundamentals in tolerance analysis, materials and process selection, thermal design, mechanical architecture, and design verification.
  • Experience delivering manufacturable designs and working with vendors through tooling, production release, and yield or reliability issues.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and with designing instrumentation or tooling that enables repeatable, documented workflows.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and a systems mindset focused on calibration, error budgets, ergonomics, documentation, and reproducibility.
  • Ability to collaborate with Electrical Engineering, Software/Platform, Industrial Design, Clinical, and scientific teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with scientific instrumentation, precision motion or alignment, medical devices, implantables, lab automation, or lightweight test automation and data analysis.
