Process Development Engineer (Optoelectronics)

What you will do

• Develop processes for assembling chips, lenses, fibers, and other components using solder and epoxy.
• Collaborate on conceptual design layouts, vendor interaction, package prototyping, testing, and performance characterization.
• Contribute to failure mode analysis, product qualification, and data analysis across the product life cycle.
• Generate bills of materials, assembly work instructions, and engineering reports for new processes and products.
• Transfer processes to manufacturing sites, primarily in Asia.
• Plan and execute improvements to product yield and reliability, including qualification tests for new processes and components.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in optical, electrical, physical engineering, or an equivalent field, with 8+ years of optoelectronics experience.
• Expertise in materials and process engineering for epoxy, solder, metallization, and ceramics in laser products.
• Experience with manual and automated component attachment, including die bonding, wire bonding, reflow, high-accuracy placement, or active alignment.
• Knowledge of six-sigma methods, design for manufacturability and reliability, SPC, and GR&R.
• Experience with conceptual design, vendor interaction, package prototyping, testing, and performance characterization.

Nice to have

• Experience with MRSI or Ficontec equipment.
• Knowledge of optics, optical design, and tolerance analysis.
• Experience with high-power semiconductor laser devices.
