TL;DR
Instrumentation Technician (Aerospace): Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and documenting supplemental instrumentation on aircraft components and flight-test assets with an accent on strain gauges, vibration fatigue testing, and high-voltage thermal monitoring. Focus on interpreting schematics, soldering, managing test equipment, and solving instrumentation challenges in hands-on aerospace environments.

Location: St. Albans, Vermont, United States; hands-on work with aircraft, components, tools, ladders, elevated areas, confined spaces, and loud environments.

Compensation: $28–$34 USD per hour

What you will do

  • Assist instrumentation engineers with installing supplemental instrumentation on structural elements, components, assemblies, and flight-test aircraft.
  • Install and maintain strain gauges for structural validation and vibration fatigue testing, as well as thermal monitoring for high-voltage components.
  • Follow installation procedures and work plans while ensuring accurate setup, testing, cleanup, and documentation.
  • Maintain installation records and manage instrumentation equipment and consumable inventory.
  • Troubleshoot test equipment and sensors while supporting problem analysis and changing team priorities.
  • Follow safety procedures, use mandated safety equipment, and contribute to a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements

  • Two-year engineering degree or certificate from an accredited college, university, or technical school, or at least two years of related technical work experience.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools and perform soldering.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and schematics for electronic components.
  • Ability to assist with problem analysis and make independent decisions.
  • Good team communication skills and willingness to learn, develop, and adapt.
  • Ability to perform physical work involving standing, equipment manipulation, ladders or stairs, confined spaces, elevated areas, loud noise, and lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Nice to have

  • Computer-aided design experience.
  • Electrical enclosure fabrication or small circuit assembly experience.
  • Aerospace design verification experience, especially compliance testing.
