Chief of Staff (AI/Biology)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; onsite at hirify.global headquarters

Base salary: $160,000–$237,500 per year, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Serve as a scientific and strategic thought partner to the Executive Director, representing priorities across the lab, institute, and external partnerships.
• Own the Executive Director’s operating rhythm, including schedule management, prioritization, meeting preparation, and follow-up.
• Gather and synthesize technical information into clear options, trade-offs, and recommendations for scientific and strategic decisions.
• Drive high-priority scientific programs, collaborations, and special projects from inception through execution.
• Organize collaborations and connect people, data, platforms, and reagents to unblock research.
• Translate complex technical work for scientists, leadership, funders, and public-facing audiences while maintaining scientific rigor.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent research training with a demonstrated scientific track record, or comparable technical depth from a consulting or founder background, plus 5–12+ years of experience.
• Background in genome or transcriptome engineering, functional genomics, neuroscience, molecular or cell biology, multi-omics, computational biology, or a related field.
• Experience gathering technical information, mapping stakeholders and dependencies, and synthesizing complex scientific topics into actionable recommendations.
• Track record of managing complex, cross-functional research projects from inception through execution while balancing competing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate credibly with research scientists, computational teams, and senior leadership.
• Experience designing and facilitating meeting pre-reads, agendas, and follow-ups, with discretion when handling confidential information.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in life sciences or a closely related field.
• Hands-on experience with CRISPR, gene or RNA editing, functional genomic screens, or high-throughput experimental platforms.
• Experience with computational biology, machine learning, or large-scale genomic data.
• Experience organizing scientific collaborations, board preparation, scientific offsites, or executive and scientific communications.
• Increasing scope of responsibility over a career; people-management experience is not required.
