Data Acquisitions Specialist (AI)

Location: New York City metropolitan area; in-person, five days a week in the office. Candidates must be located in the area or be open to relocation.

Salary: $200,000–$350,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Identify and source external and proprietary datasets that can improve AI-powered simulations across multiple domains.
• Map the alternative data landscape, conduct outbound vendor outreach, and build relationships with data providers.
• Translate internal research and engineering priorities into targeted data acquisition strategies.
• Coordinate dataset sample reviews and assess quality, coverage, uniqueness, usability, and incremental value.
• Manage vendor communications, diligence, pricing discussions, negotiations, and contract coordination.
• Negotiate licensing rights, exclusivity, trial structures, pricing, and other commercial terms while maintaining detailed opportunity records.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in data acquisitions, alternative data research, partnerships, business development, or a similar external-dataset role.
• Strong understanding of the alternative data ecosystem and the ability to assess dataset value, differentiation, and replicability.
• Confidence conducting external outreach and developing relationships with senior vendor counterparts.
• Strong commercial judgment when balancing data quality, strategic importance, and price.
• Excellent organization and ability to manage multiple vendor evaluations and negotiations simultaneously.
• Ability to work in person five days a week in the New York City metropolitan area, or willingness to relocate.

Nice to have

• Experience with alternative data from an investing, research, marketplace, or vendor perspective.
• Experience negotiating data licensing agreements or other commercial arrangements for third-party datasets.
• Experience evaluating representativeness, methodology risk, source overlap, and likely value-add.
• Experience collaborating with research or engineering teams on data testing, integration, and purchasing decisions.
• Familiarity with privacy, compliance, usage rights, and exploratory data analysis.
