Applications Engineer - Magnetics

Location: Research Triangle Park, NC; onsite role. Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

What you will do

• Own technical customer programs from initial engagement through samples, validation, qualification, and production release.
• Understand application requirements and recommend magnet materials, grades, coatings, configurations, and performance characteristics.
• Evaluate requirements against manufacturing capabilities and provide design-for-manufacturability recommendations balancing performance, cost, and heavy rare earth usage.
• Coordinate with commercial, R&D, manufacturing, materials, and quality teams on samples, testing, documentation, and production readiness.
• Support prototyping, customer qualification, PPAP, first article inspection, and validation testing.
• Lead resolution of application, performance, and quality issues, including root cause investigations and corrective actions such as 8D.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in customer-facing engineering, applications engineering, or product engineering.
• Experience with manufactured components in a production environment, such as metals, ceramics, magnets, or similar products.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
• Experience collaborating with manufacturing and quality teams and supporting root cause investigations.
• Excellent communication skills for direct customer interaction.

Nice to have

• Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability industries.
• Experience with permanent magnets, especially NdFeB materials, magnetic systems, motors, sensors, or actuators.
• Familiarity with PPAP, first article inspection, GD&T, complex engineering drawings, DFM, 8D, or CAPA.
• Exposure to electromagnetic or magnetic analysis tools such as FEA.
