TL;DR
Software Engineer - ML/Computer Vision (Battery Sorting) (PyTorch/OpenCV): Building production software and computer vision systems that classify and route end-of-life batteries across varied chemistries and form factors with an accent on ML inference, sensor integration, and hardware-adjacent controls. Focus on deploying and monitoring models, connecting inference services to MES/HMI/PLC systems, and solving latency, observability, and production reliability challenges on the factory floor.

Location: McCarran, Nevada, or San Francisco, California, United States. The role is based in a factory-floor environment, with a variable schedule depending on site operational needs and travel to Reno, Nevada as needed.

Salary: $152,500–$287,500 USD per year, with compensation based on experience.

Company

hirify.global is building a localized battery supply chain through battery recovery, reuse, recycling, and production of battery materials in the United States.

What you will do

  • Develop, test, and maintain production software for automated battery sorting, including ML inference, image acquisition, sensor integration, and hardware-adjacent control interfaces.
  • Train and deploy computer vision models for battery chemistry classification, covering annotation, preprocessing, evaluation, and retraining.
  • Build services and APIs connecting ML outputs with MES, HMI, and PLC/control systems.
  • Own observability through structured logging, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and on-call triage.
  • Monitor production model performance, identify regressions and distribution shifts, and drive improvements through data analysis.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD workflows for application code and ML model artifacts, while collaborating with Controls, Hardware, Manufacturing, DevOps, and IT.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of industry experience working with machine learning models, preferably in computer vision.
  • Hands-on experience with PyTorch and OpenCV, plus production codebases and well-tested pipelines.
  • Experience designing and tracking ML experiments with tools such as MLflow.
  • Familiarity with edge deployment and inference optimization techniques such as quantization, TensorRT, or ONNX Runtime.
  • Experience with OCR, image classification, multimodal or multi-sensor fusion, and software interacting with industrial or manufacturing systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience with industrial, manufacturing, or operations environments.
  • Experience generating patents in automated battery classification.
  • Passion for sustainability and energy-transition technologies.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Work on production systems with immediate real-world impact on battery recycling and the energy transition.
  • Cross-functional collaboration across software, machine learning, controls, hardware, manufacturing, DevOps, and IT.
  • Schedule flexibility is required to support factory operations.
