Software Engineer - ML/Computer Vision (Battery Sorting)

Location: McCarran, Nevada and San Francisco, California, United States; factory-floor work is required, with travel to Reno, Nevada as needed.

What you will do

• Develop, test, and maintain production software for automated battery sorting, including ML inference, image acquisition, sensor integration, and hardware-adjacent control interfaces.
• Train and deploy computer vision models for battery chemistry classification, including annotation, preprocessing, evaluation, and retraining.
• Build services and APIs connecting ML outputs to MES, HMI, and PLC/controls systems.
• Own observability through structured logging, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and on-call incident triage.
• Monitor production model performance, identify regressions and distribution shifts, and drive improvements through data analysis.
• Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD workflows, while collaborating with Controls, Hardware, Manufacturing, DevOps, and IT teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of industry experience working with machine learning models, preferably in computer vision.
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch and OpenCV, plus production codebases and well-tested software pipelines.
• Experience designing and tracking ML experiments with tools such as MLflow.
• Experience or familiarity with edge deployment and model optimization techniques such as quantization, TensorRT, or ONNX Runtime.
• Ability to work in a factory-floor environment, adapt to schedules driven by site operations, and travel to Reno, Nevada as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with OCR, image-classification pipelines, or multi-sensor and multimodal fusion.
• Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or operations environments where software interacts with physical systems.
