Principal Applied AI Scientist (Geospatial AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; candidates must be a U.S. Person as defined by U.S. citizenship, permanent resident, Asylee, or Refugee status.

Base pay: $150,000–$220,000 annually in Colorado, New Jersey, Delaware, and California; $165,000–$242,000 annually in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Other states use market-driven geographic ranges.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy AI applications that transform large-scale geospatial data into actionable insights and predictive intelligence.
• Build end-to-end ML pipelines covering data ingestion, preprocessing, feature engineering, training, evaluation, and production inference.
• Productionize reasoning models, vision-language models, and multimodal systems combining imagery, geospatial signals, and structured data.
• Architect training and experimentation frameworks with automated pipelines, experiment tracking, benchmarking, and reproducible evaluation.
• Create synthetic datasets and test harnesses to validate model robustness and edge-case behavior in operational environments.
• Collaborate with domain experts, software engineers, product managers, research partners, and technology organizations to deliver Earth AI capabilities.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required; certain work may also be subject to U.S. export control and ITAR requirements.
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of experience building and deploying production machine learning systems.
• Experience with deep learning, including vision-language models, multimodal learning, reasoning models, large language models, computer vision, or geospatial AI.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
• Experience with reproducible experimentation, scalable inference, cloud infrastructure, containerized systems, distributed training, and large-scale data processing.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial data, remote sensing, satellite imagery, or Earth observation systems.
• Experience building or fine-tuning foundation models, multimodal models, or agentic AI systems.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and large-scale AI/ML infrastructure.
• Open-source AI contributions, research publications, or patents.
