TL;DR
Sr. Metrology Technician (Automotive): Performing dimensional inspections, equipment calibration, and measurement system verification for vehicle parts, assemblies, and fixtures with an accent on PCMMs, GD&T, precision measurement, and manufacturing quality. Focus on analyzing measurement data, supporting root cause investigations, validating measurement systems, and resolving dimensional issues with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.

Location: Blythewood, South Carolina, United States; daily onsite attendance required. Occasional travel and in-person collaboration with Scout colleagues are expected.

Salary: $27.40–$34.20 per hour, plus an additional $0.75 per hour after six months. Full-time, non-exempt position with overtime eligibility and participation in an annual performance bonus program.

What you will do

  • Perform dimensional inspections on parts, assemblies, and fixtures using PCMMs and manual measurement tools.
  • Execute measurement programs, collect data, and report deviations or non-conformances.
  • Assist with calibration, verification, maintenance, and proper storage of precision measurement equipment.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to verify compliance with design specifications.
  • Support root cause analysis, GR&R studies, capability studies, measurement-system validation, and new product launches.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to resolve dimensional issues and maintain safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in metrology, quality inspection, or a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with precision measurement equipment, including PCMMs, scan boxes, inline systems, gauges, laser trackers, portable metrology systems, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and the ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with calibration processes and measurement-system verification.
  • High School Diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and proficiency with MS Office.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in automotive or electric vehicle manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with PolyWorks or ZeissInspect metrology software.
  • Exposure to SPC, GR&R, and basic quality tools.
  • Technical certification or an associate degree in a related field.
