TL;DR
Manufacturing Specialist - Third Shift (Fusion Energy): Supporting production process improvements and manufacturing efficiency for commercially viable fusion power plant hardware with an accent on electromechanical equipment, tooling, troubleshooting, and quality improvement. Focus on reducing equipment downtime and defects, qualifying new manufacturing techniques, building prototypes, and resolving production blockers during the overnight shift.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site, third shift from 10:00 pm to 6:30 am. Occasional nights, weekends, on-call work, and travel may be required.

Salary: $30–$43 per hour plus a 15% shift differential, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Brainstorm, trial, implement, and track continuous improvement projects that reduce build hours, defects, and equipment downtime.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, equipment engineers, and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Document, troubleshoot, and resolve manufacturing system downtime, nonconformances, and production blockers.
  • Design, build, and commission electromechanical equipment and tooling for process and efficiency improvements.
  • Write and update process work instructions and create team performance metrics.
  • Perform R&D and prototype hardware builds using mechanical and precision-calibrated tools.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience with technical skills including mechanical and electrical assembly.
  • At least 6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using hand tools and troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities, communicate them to teams and management, and monitor performance metrics.
  • Ability to work on-site, occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, and work safely around industrial hazards including high voltage, strong magnets, lead, fumes, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

  • Associate degree or higher in an engineering-related field.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma.
  • Experience developing, designing, or maintaining manufacturing equipment and electromechanical systems.
