TL;DR
Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer Body Shop (Automotive): Validating BIW tooling, welding processes, and launch readiness for electric pickup trucks and rugged SUVs with an accent on dimensional quality, robotic automation, and production efficiency. Focus on analyzing joining and dimensional issues, standardizing BIW processes, integrating new designs, and improving cycle time and OEE.

Location: Blythewood, South Carolina, United States; daily onsite attendance is required. Regular in-person meetings, company events, and occasional travel are expected.

Salary: $100,000–$125,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Validate BIW tooling capability, conduct tryouts, and ensure weld joint integrity against design standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis for dimensional and joining issues using CMM, 3D scan, SPC, and quality-system data.
  • Standardize BIW station processes through work instructions, control plans, joining schedules, process flows, and lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers and internal engineering teams during design reviews, buy-offs, installation, and NPI activities.
  • Improve cycle time, OEE, manufacturing efficiency, and recurring quality performance using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
  • Support BIW production teams with robotic programming, equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance development, and operator training.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in BIW manufacturing or automotive body structures, preferably in high-volume production.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with welding, robotic automation, and BIW fixture or tooling design.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, datum strategies, tolerance stack-ups, weld schedule tuning, joint stack-up variation, and fixture repeatability.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, TeamCenter, or SolidWorks, including tooling and part model review.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; Fanuc robot programming and PLC logic knowledge is preferred.
