Senior Software Backend Engineer (Node.js)

Location: San Diego, California

Salary: $150,000–$170,000 annual base salary

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable backend services using Node.js, GraphQL, and Java/Kotlin with Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain responsive, performant frontend applications with React.
• Optimize PostgreSQL databases for performance and reliability.
• Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
• Partner with product managers to define requirements and delivery timelines, while troubleshooting complex full-stack issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
• 5–10 years of frontend, backend, and database experience.
• Proficiency in Node.js and server-side JavaScript.
• Backend experience with Java and/or Kotlin, including Spring Boot.
• Expert knowledge of GraphQL, including schema design and performance optimization.
• Advanced React and PostgreSQL experience, with strong software design, problem-solving, communication, and debugging skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with spine or orthopedics.
• Prisma ORM, JPA, and database migrations.
• DevOps and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks.
