Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Node)

Location: New York City; in-person at the SoHo office 5 days a week onsite

Salary: $200,000–$225,000 plus equity

What you will do

• Build and maintain production backend services and APIs powering the platform.
• Own backend systems end to end, from design and deployment through on-call operations.
• Improve performance and reliability as usage scales, evolving systems already in production.
• Design instrumentation and security into services from the beginning.
• Build data models and pipelines that provide actionable insights for organizers and the business.
• Contribute to architecture and code reviews, technical decisions, interviews, and engineer mentoring.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience shipping production systems in fast-paced environments.
• Deep expertise in APIs, data modeling, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
• Proficiency with Java, Node, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and AWS or similar technologies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform, and deploying containerized applications.
• Experience scaling and evolving live systems under operational load.
• Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly and collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
