Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Affiliate Platform)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States

Annual salary: $150,000–$190,000 DOE, plus benefits and incentive plans.

What you will do

• Build and evolve backend services for affiliate tracking, attribution, commission rules, settlement, partner onboarding, and anti-fraud controls.
• Design versioned REST/gRPC APIs and partner integration patterns, including webhooks and callbacks.
• Implement high-throughput event ingestion and durable workflows using databases, caching, messaging, and streaming systems.
• Ensure idempotency, reconciliation, audit trails, safe retries, and reliable state transitions in financially sensitive settlement flows.
• Improve performance and reliability through profiling, query optimization, load testing, capacity planning, and cost-aware scaling.
• Operate production services with observability, SLOs, incident response, CI/CD, canary or blue-green releases, and zero-downtime migrations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems for consumer, commerce, or growth platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Java 17+ and Spring Boot/Spring Cloud or an equivalent backend stack.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, consistency models, concurrency, resilience patterns, and production troubleshooting.
• Production experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, plus Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, Redis, Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ, automated testing, OAuth2/OIDC, secrets management, and operational documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with affiliate or partner platforms, attribution models, commission configuration, payout lifecycles, and reconciliation workflows.
• Experience building anti-fraud or abuse-prevention systems.
• Experience with identity, commerce/order integrations, analytics instrumentation, or robotics and smart hardware ecosystems.
• Familiarity with Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, on-call practices, and incident postmortems.
• Professional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English for collaboration with China-based partners and suppliers.
