Software Engineering Manager (Hands On)

Location: London, England, United Kingdom. Hybrid work model with an expectation to work onsite at least 50% of the time for employees within commuting distance of a hirify.global office.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and support an engineering team, setting priorities, ownership expectations, and growth goals.
• Partner with Product, Security, DevOps, and engineering leaders to deliver roadmap commitments.
• Improve planning, estimation, delivery processes, and engineering practices while removing blockers.
• Guide technical design discussions, evaluate risks and trade-offs, and support secure, maintainable systems.
• Promote responsible AI-assisted engineering while protecting privacy, security, quality, and sound judgment.
• Support hiring, performance conversations, feedback, and career development.

Requirements

• 8 or more years of software engineering experience, including project leadership and experience supporting or managing engineers in an agile product environment.
• Experience managing teams building cloud-native microservices on AWS.
• Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, accountability, planning, and delivery support.
• Backend engineering experience with Node, TypeScript, AWS, APIs, production systems, and SQL or NoSQL data stores.
• Understanding of CI/CD, observability, incident support, Docker-based workflows, and infrastructure as code.
• Practical knowledge of AI-enabled engineering and product use cases, including LLM concepts, privacy, security, bias, governance, and cost.

• Experience with hiring, organizational planning, or broader cross-team delivery initiatives.
• Experience helping teams adopt AI-assisted development tools or AI-enabled product capabilities.
